The Holy Week is upon us. one thing that struck me while listening to the homily last sunday was the phrase "passion, not vacation". I'm sure the priest wasn't trying to be killjoy. He just wanted to remind people that yeah, the Holy Week is one of those long-enough period to lie low and take a breather. But it doesn't mean giving in to hedonism, either. Then again, it feels good to hear from some friends that however modern they maybe, they intend to keep the Holy Week sacred. Like my mountaineer friends who are foregoing the usual drinking during their climb. Or other friends who are abstaining from meat. To each, his/her own sacrifice, I guess. It's something to ponder upon while we go on a Visita-Iglesia (church visits) this coming Good Friday, in the Ilocos Region.
