Oratio Imperata

(On the Occasion of the La NiƱa Phenomenon)
All-powerful and merciful God, we never cease to worship and praise you in good times as well as in bad. When fine weather gladdens our hearts, we thank you for your wonderful work. Now that violent storms and raging floods devastate our homes, towns, and crops, we come to you with confidence and hope. By prayer of Mary, our tender mother, make us strong in mind, soul and body that we may cope with nature's forces; give us generous and caring hearts that we may assist the helpless victims by offering shelter, food, and clothing; instill in us respect for the environment that nature may regain its original balance.  Let these trying times renew our faith in you and strentghen the bond of unity among us that when our homes and towns are rebuilt, and our fields yield again abundant harvest, we may return to you full of praise and thanks. Listen kindly to our prayers of supplication through your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
