Just passing through: One night in Bangkok

suvarnabhumi airportBy a twist of faith (and an eye on my budget), I got booked on a night flight to Bangkok enroute to Myanmar. An hour delayed leaving Manila’s Terminal 3, I arrived in Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport at way past midnight.suvarnabhumi airport sunriseCavernous and huge are the best words I can use to describe the airport. Just retrieving one’s check-in baggage is like walking the end-to-end distance of an SM Megamall floor.suvarnabhumi airport overnighterMuch to my pleasant surprise, I was greeted by a group of Pinays headed for Jordan on the check-in floor. They were my co-passengers on the same flight from Manila, and like me, were also spending overnight in the airport. I actually wondered why they settled for a crowded row of seats when there were plenty of empty seats on both ends of the airport. It can get very cold here so I’m glad i heeded the advice of my buddy, Ironwulf, to bring along my trusty malong. The airport continued to be a beehive of activities well into the night but having found my spot, sleep came blissfully swift.

the huge and well equipped airport shows how thailand surpassed the then leading philippines in the southeast asia in the past 2 decades.

one of my bosses recalls how our neighboring countries always seek assistance from our country to help them in their developmental efforts. now it seems the other way around.

dom, really world-class operations they have there at suvarnabhumi. do watch out for the future posts. lagalog is on sick bay lang and back to work kaya medyo pahinga muna but will be posting on my myanmar trip soon.

jpkakalungkot nga rin kasi most tourists will opt to go to thailand when asked where in southeast asia they'd want to go. next would be cambodia and laos. the philippines would be down the list if ever. makes you wonder kasi napakadami nating magagandang destinations dito.

I experienced sleeping in an airport (Frankfurt) once by choice, rather than pay an exorbitant hotel rate for a few hours of sleep. However, all the seats then at the airport have armrests which make lying down to a comfortable sleep impossible. The seats at Bangkok looks comfy for sleeping.

freeze, i didn't go beyond the airport since my connecting flight was just a few hours away so i stayed overnight in the airport.

bert, those seats are really comfy and the airconditioning really cool, i missed it as soon as i touched down in hot yangon.
