Vietnam • Finer dining in Sapa

Ironwulf inspired me to write about our Sapa trip. It isn't too hard to recall how fine our dinner in Sapa Valley turned out to be. For a mere US$10 (or 450php), we had a princely treat at Gecko Restaurant -- from filling appetizers to melt-in-your-mouth spring rolls, from a delicately grilled beef and wine sauce main course to a sinful serving of decadent chocolate cake for dessert. The ambiance was conducive to eating even though we were backpackers. And oh, the cool, cool weather and absence of other guests made eating and shooting all the more pleasurable. One of the common feedback (or complaint) I keep hearing from fellow pinoys and tourists is that the prices of eating out here in our country are relatively expensive. I guess if we are to seriously compete in the tourism market, we ought to take a cue from neighbors like Vietnam and Thailand where food is plentiful, cheap, and most especially, delicious.
